  • I wake before the harbor does.

The kettle clicks on in the quiet kitchen, the sound sharp against the old clapboard walls. Outside, the docks are still wrapped in fog, boats rocking gently like they’re breathing. I grind the beans by hand—dark, oily, familiar—and the first smell hits before the water ever boils.

Coffee. Deep and roasted. Comforting as a worn sweater.

The mug warms my palms as I step onto the porch. The air tastes faintly of salt and wood, the kind that settles into everything near the water. I take a sip—creamy vanilla softens the bitterness, followed by a hint of caramel that lingers just long enough to remind me of mornings long gone. My father drank his coffee the same way, leaning on this very railing, watching the tide decide the day. God I miss him.

Somewhere between sips, the harbor stirs. A gull cries. Rigging clinks. The scent deepens—bitter almond and cocoa beneath the coffee now, rich and steady, like the rhythm of waves against pilings. It’s not sweet. It’s honest.

It’s the promise that some places never really leave us.

This is the kind of morning that stays with you.

The kind you carry far from the water and unfold again when you need it.

The harbor rests in morning quiet.

Somewhere a screen door creaks open.

A gull drifts across the pale morning sky.

And from the porch of the old harbor house came the comforting scent of fresh coffee rising into the cool air.

Harbor House Brew isn’t just coffee on the breeze—it’s the quiet before the day begins. A warm mug, a wooden porch, and the promise that some places never really leave us.
